LIGHT YOUR OWN FIRE

There are some days when you just want to put your feet up on the sofa, turn on the TV and watch Netflix. I get it, and I have my fair share of sweatpants to go along with my remote. But - if the desire to sit your booty down and totally veg out has become your regular routine you might want to keep reading.

I love music, and I have been listening to a playlist full of upbeat songs lately. I’m talking about high-energy, badass women anthems that light a fire under you and make you feel alive. The list is full of songs like Pink’s Just Like Fire, Katy Perry’s Roar, Confident by Demi Lovato and Unstoppable by Sia. And, as much as I love my soft, comfy sweatshirt and multiple episodes of Emily in Paris or Nobody Wants This, I certainly don’t feel unstoppable as I reach for the remote, saying “Just One More”…..

There is a lot of talk about self care, but here’s the thing: When you hear the term “self care”, what comes to mind? Maybe rest, relaxing in a bath, walking in nature, reading a good book. All of those things are amazing, don’t get me wrong. But to really escape the cycle of work, Netflix, work, Netflix, and feeling like you deserve to put your feet on the couch because you are exhausted, you need something different— to start to generate energy, not just recover it. This is about fueling yourself in a way that actually makes you feel more energized as you move through your days and nights.

When you focus on creating your own energy, magic happens. You feel better physically and emotionally. Your mind is sharp and clear. You’re more engaged and excited about life, noticing opportunities instead of roadblocks. You seek out big projects to tackle, and instead of feeling exhausted, you feel exhilarated. It’s like once you create that spark, momentum takes over and suddenly, you’re on a roll. And here’s the best part: that kind of energy carries you so much farther than just sheer willpower or “grinding it out” ever could.

I know what you’re thinking—that sounds amazing, but how do I even start? Here’s the secret: lighting your fire means bringing more of the right stuff into your life, not just focusing on what you need to cut out. When I commit to a project I’m passionate about, it becomes crystal clear what’s holding me back and what’s just busywork. Suddenly, it’s easier to align my energy, my calendar, and my to-do list around the things that really matter.

We are capable of some incredible things.

Right now, there’s probably something in your life that you would really like to change. Maybe you’d like to lead a project at work, make a positive change for your family, or even take that dream trip you’ve been putting off. Whatever it is, I know you’re holding yourself back because life feels too busy, or the timing isn’t perfect. But let me challenge you: when you commit to something you truly want, and take even the smallest steps towards making it happen, you start generating the kind of energy that makes everything else fall into place. That satisfaction, that fire—it’s tangible, and it ripples out into every corner of your life.

A woman who’s connected to her purpose? She’s unstoppable. She uplifts others, creates change, and makes an impact, not just because she’s doing all the things, but because she’s lit from within.

I know it’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. Start by asking yourself: What’s one thing I can commit to that would make me feel amazing, even if it takes a while to make it come to life?

In my next post, I’ll dive into how to figure that out if you’re not sure, along with some daily practices for checking in with yourself and resources to help you stay accountable.
